Editorial Corrections to Proposed International Bylaws Amendments

Posted On Tuesday, April 27, 2021

Appreciation goes to our Hawai'i sisters who found two typos in the International Convention Guidebook, 2nd edition. Editorial changes for two proposed amendments are necessary but do not change the intent of the proposed amendments. The following corrections will be made to the 3rd edition of the Guidebook, which will be posted April 15.

Please note the following corrections in your current copy:

    •  #2 Conforming amendment (page 49) should be Article VI rather than  IV

    •  #17 amendment (page 59) should reference page A19— 18 rather than 16 in the current International Bylaws.

The International Executive Board approved three proposals for the 2021-2023 International World Understanding Projects.

International World Understanding Committee Chairman Rachel Shankles and her committee carefully reviewed many proposal applications for the 2021-2023 International World Understanding Project. The top five applications were submitted to the International Executive Board for consideration. After review, the International Executive Board approved three proposals for further consideration by our membership. The proposed projects are:

C.H.E.A.R. (Children’s Home with Education and Agriculture a Reality)

R.I.S.E.
(Reaching and Inspiring Students in Ethiopia)

Sewing Seeds of Hope

Detailed information about the three proposed projects will be included in the March KAPPAN, in upcoming Eblasts and on our website. Members will vote online during the month of June to select one project for the new biennium. The new project will be announced during the International Convention in July 2021.

Form 990-N e-Postcard

Form 990-N e-Postcard

Chapters and states need to file the annual Form 990-N e-Postcard to maintain tax-exempt status on a federal level. Filing the 990-N e-Postcard is also a requirement for the Pearls of Achievement Program. For most states and chapters, this is due annually by October 15.

What does it mean to maintain tax-exempt status? Alpha Delta Kappa International has been declared a 501(c)(3), a nonprofit/charitable organization that has been recognized by the IRS as being tax-exempt by virtue of its charitable programs. This status as a charity means donations to the international organization are tax-deductible.

All S/P/N’s and chapters are currently 501(c)(7) nonprofit organizations and are exempt from paying federal income tax, with some exceptions, so long as they file the 990-N e-Postcard. Note: a 501(c)(7) is not considered a charitable organization and is subject to state sales tax.
